China, a country in close connection with its frontier states
The relations with the nomads of the steppes of the frontier states (Tibet, Mongolia, Turkestan) played a great part in the history of China.
The limit, materialized by the Large Wall, separating the field of the Chinese of that from the nomads, hardly varies until the XIX th century.
This limit, however, is often crossed so much so that with various resumptions of the nomads seize the capacity in China (Liao dynasties, Yuan and Qing).
Even if the Chinese world and the world of the steppes represent two well differentiated conflict entities, they do not cease exerting one on the other of the major influences in the field of the policy, the trade, art, the culture. This old distinction between Zhongguo and the field external of the barbarians is the reflection of ideological thoughts related to the Confucianism of the type : relations superieur/inferior
